Inside Our Wedding Day Emergency Kit: What We Never Leave Home Without
Just a quick note: this post contains some affiliate links - because when I’m obsessed with something, I can’t help but share it. If you end up loving it too, I might get a little kickback (aka more funds for Morgan’s lifestyle).
If you’ve ever wondered what a wedding dog attendant really brings to a wedding, you’re in the right place. After six years in this industry, I’ve curated a list of must-have tools that keep dogs comfortable, calm, safe, and photo-ready - no matter what Ontario weather or a busy timeline throws at us! Today I’m sharing a few of my absolute favourite items we rely on at every single wedding. These aren’t random add-ons; they’re intentional choices that support your pup and ensure your wedding day flows beautifully.
Black Dog Weddings favourite emergency kit items for wedding days
One thing I never leave home without is my Kurgo Quantum 6-in-1 leash. This is my hands-free secret weapon ;) When your dog isn’t actively in photos or walking down the aisle, this leash allows me to keep them close while still having the mobility to fix eye boogers, tidy paws, straighten bow ties, fluff dresses, or even help adjust cufflinks or veils. Wedding days are busy, joyful, beautiful chaos and having both hands available while still maintaining safe control of your dog makes a world of difference.
Speaking of essentials, I need to shout from the rooftops about the Dherese Ring Keeper. I am obsessed…and I don’t use that word lightly! It’s sleek, secure, incredibly easy to use, photographs like an absolute dream, and has completely replaced the need for fiddly knots or awkward ring setups. If your dog is serving as the ring bearer, this is the ring keeper you want. We use it exclusively at Black Dog Weddings, and because I love it so much, I’m thrilled to share an affiliate code with you: Use BLACKDOG when you order yours. Trust me - it’s worth it!!!
In addition to gear, we always carry a Walks ’N’ Wags travel-sized emergency kit. As many of you know, I’m also a Pet First Aid + CPR Instructor, and I firmly believe that preparation is one of the greatest gifts you can give a dog. Their kits tuck perfectly into our bags and are stocked with everything we’d need to respond quickly and confidently if something unexpected happened. We rarely have to use them (really for minor abrasions on paw pads or humans) but knowing we’re prepared allows everyone (including your pup!) to enjoy the day more fully.
And then there are the “fun-but-still-essential” items: spiky squeaky balls for capturing those adorable photo moments and rewarding a job well done, plus a snuffle mat stocked with treats to keep pups quietly engaged during your vow exchange. Our favourite treats come from Spoiled Dog Bakery in St. Jacobs (make sure to use the code SPOILMORGAN10 at checkout) - not only are they delicious (according to our clients and Spokesdog Morgan!), but they’re made with high-quality ingredients that keep pups focused without overexciting them. A snuffle mat loaded with Spoiled Dog Bakery goodies is nothing short of fabulous when we need a quiet distraction during emotional moments.
These tools are small pieces of a much bigger picture: thoughtful planning, experience, and a deep understanding of how to support dogs in high-energy environments. Your wedding day is a once-in-a-lifetime moment and having the right items (and the right people) around your dog makes it stress-free, safe, and full of joy. If you have questions about how we prepare, or if you’re planning to include your dog in your 2026 or 2027 wedding, I’m always here to help.
Give your pups some belly rubs from me!
Cheers,
-Ash
